Using the book Everything’s an Argument or the pdf in classroom, find chapter 13 (page 215) which outlines the use of humor as argument. We will go through this and examine terminology and examples. Our unit on humor as argument will include an examination of the language and techniques associated with satire. We will analyze the effectiveness of satirical pieces, and also create original pieces. Ongoing assignments during this unit will focus on rhetorical devices exercises, more multiple choice fun, and short informal precis writings to analyze assigned readings. There will be at least one large (9 point) essay during this short unit.
Please make sure you turn in your “Laziness” essay today. Thursday afternoon and all day Friday is my time to work on grades for this class. At that time I will wade through all graded assignments in Classroom. Make sure that anything you intend to be graded is turned in by Friday afternoon.
